Ward Library - Werrington South Site

Werrington, NSW

The new library was designed as the central facility for the overall University of Western Sydney and included state of the art communications facilities to allow the increasing use of non-print media to be accessed. In addition to the collection area, specialist theatres, lecture rooms and staff support areas were included in the design, as well as a student cafeteria.

The building is arranged over three levels and is divided by a central circulation spine to provide simple and efficient access to all areas of the library. The strong but simple geometry of the design has been expressed in the form, without compromising the function of the building. This project was designed to provide a ‘landmark’ building on the (then) new Werrington South site.

Over 45,000 items are transferred around the campus libraries each year and the book collections increase by over 30,000 every year. Multiple access points to over 39,000 electronic volume titles is available and in 2002 the library web site recorded over 10 Million hits.

Project Sum: $8.3 Million
